They are generally equipped with the latest experimental technology available at the time of their construction. The definition of a Gundam varies from one timeline to another. In most series it is used as an acronym to refer to something, however in all but the most recent series these acronyms were derived after the fact and do not appear at any point in the animated works. The protagonist's mobile suit of a series usually carries the name Gundam. The main suit in each series usually sports a mainly white and blue color scheme, with yellow and red accents, and sports at least one pair of yellow or white V-fins on its head. Ghost - Cirice (Official Music Video)

===The TSF version of the F-5 bears some resemblance to the fighter in its history. Initially rolled out after the introduction Phantom II, the Freedom Fighter opted for lower armouring and superior mobility. Just like the F-5 fighter was used to train pilots, the Freedom Fighter TSF served first as a training machine that was converted into a full-fledged combat unit. We don’t know what this training TSF was named or looked like, but that doesn’t matter. Similar how the real life F-5 became an export extravaganza, so did the Freedom Fighter, with the US forces allowing to local productions of this lightweight surface fighter in order to take pressure off from American productions. This naturally gave the Europeans their own TSF push towards Kashgar and counter the invading BETA.The weapon loadout for the Freedom Fighter was simple; a WS-16 Assault Cannon and brass balls for the pilot. The FE85-GE15 engines allowed the TSF to have superior maneuverability over Phantom II, but the weapons technology was severely lacking during the early 1970’s, making the war against BETA more or less a futile attempt. However, it was because of its cheap price and low-maintenance why Freedom Fighter found success in the front lines. The Soviets and European forces found it worth to mix Phantom IIs and Freedom Fighters in a healthy mix to compensate each other’s lacking capabilities, which would yield further high-low mix troops in the future.F-5 itself influenced the Soviet’s MiG-series and would affect their design decisions in regards of close-combat capabilities. The French developed the Mirage III based on the Freedom Fighter, which would ultimately give birth European 3rd Generation TSFs such as EF-2000 Typhoon and the Rafale. The F-5 series of TSFs would continue to mirror the evolution of the real life fighters in a very similar fashion, giving birth to F-5G Tighershark Tactical Surface Fighter and other variants. Of course, Muv-Luv’s BETAverse differs in naming schemes and has some additional variations, but that’s par for the course. As for the design of the F-5 Freedom Fighter, it shares more design elements with the F-5 Phantom II than the real fighter it is supposed to be based on. Sure, the Jump Units (not pictured) share its normal resemblance with the fighter, but outside few overall similarities the core Freedom Fighter doesn’t have much going on for it. This is where the early consistency still kicks in hard, but the lack of further discerning elements in the TSF from the fighter makes this a boxy and boring unit.  Things would get any better, with F-5F Mirage III being essentially the same with a new chest, wider antennae and spikes on its knees. It wouldn’t be until Mirage 2000 before the European TSFs would start to carry further elements from the real life fighters. That’s a damn shame too.F-5 did offer elements to borrow from, but I guess one ways to show how low-tech 1st Gen TSFs are is to have lacking plane elements in the, Just like with some other TSFs, what matters more is the history and intention of the rather than the design, resulting in a poor comparison point between the fighter and TSF, unless one wants to over analyse every single little bit on the unit. Frankly, that would be useless. From now on, I probably will have to resort to various other sources for images, most likely the use of CGs will see a rise.     ===

ASC Non-transformable Battloids[]

The term Battloid is a shortened form of the more accurate term Battle Android and refers to the class of robotic combat systems designed with a humanoid form. Unlike the first generation RDF Destroid mecha, which were designed as heavy armor combat systems fulfilling artillery, anti-aircraft, and front-line heavy weapons roles, the Battloid class of Southern Cross mecha serve as front-line armored infantry or specialized roles like reconnaissance and search and rescue.

The Southern Cross Battloids were designed to act as the heavily armored

equivalent of a regular soldier. As such the Battloids do not possess many forms of heavy ordnance for armament. Most possess only basic energy weaponry for internal weapons systems and their primary armament being, like a regular soldier has a rifle, a hand-held gun pod (similar to those carried by the Southern Cross Veritechs). Battloids can usually be found performing basic patrol and guard functions around military and civilian installations, search and rescue operations, or special operations and reconnaissance missions.

The Southern Cross battloids use more conventional inertial confinement fusion reactors instead of the Protoculture power sources used by the more versatile Veritech mecha. This puts some limits on their use due to the limited fuel capacity (approximately one week of combat operations) and high cost producing the liquid metallic hydrogen used in the reactors.

The robot was adapted to fulfill a more defensive role and the APR-4 can now be found acting as security guards and secondary defense for key military installations, and as police alongside Civil Defense forces in key cities of the United Earth Government.

ASC Powered Infantry Armored Mecha Suits[]

Even though they were smaller than their first generation counterparts, the Southern Cross battloid mecha were still unsuitable for dealing with military threats involving more conventional ground troops, or for dealing with civilian strife, both of which were becoming the common type of threat faced by the Southern Cross after the final defeat of the Zentraedi at the end of the Malcontent Uprisings. To deal with these threats Robotech engineers developed small-scale mecha that were in effect heavily armored powered exoskeletons. Unlike the larger battloids, these mecha were not designed to be piloted but instead worn, with the operator moving the mech with his own limbs (though with power enhanced strength and mobility). Sensor data is displayed directly on a heads-up display (HUD) in the mech's head (helmet) while weapons and other auxiliary systems are operated by a combination of hand controls in the arms and voice command. Since size constraints prevent these mecha from using either Protoculture or fusion power sources, engineers opted instead for liquid hydrogen fuel cells, allowing the same fuel source as the fusion reactors of the battloids to be used for the mecha suit fuel cells.

Referred to alternately as both Powered Armors and Mecha Suits, these mecha are usually equipped with some built-in offensive capability that, thanks to their small size, can be augmented with conventional carried infantry weaponry.

Variations[]

Universal Century[]

In the Universal Century, Gundams are usually equipped with powerful beam weapons and are typically armored in a special alloy, Luna Titanium (later renamed Gundarium in honor of the famous mobile suit). However, the use of Gundarium in the construction of standard mobile suits became widespread. The use of other alloys to manufacture later Gundam models, such as the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II, further blurred the distinction of a Gundam in this era.

In this era GUNDAM stands for ""General purpose Utility Non-Discontinuity Augmentation Maneuvering weapon system". [1.] In canon this acronym was not derived until after the One Year War. [2.] This term was derived after the production of Mobile Suit Gundam

In the Future Century, the term "Gundam" denotes the mobile fighters created specifically for use in the Gundam Fight tournament proposed by Professor E.C. Ducer. The name of the mobile fighters is derived from the lightweight and ultra-tough Gundarium alloy used in their construction. These mobile fighters are controlled by their pilots via the Mobile Trace System.

After Colony[]

In the After Colony alternate universe, Gundams are loosely defined as mobile suits that are made using Gundarium θ, or as it is more commonly known in this timeline, Gundanium. However, there are mobile suits that are made from Gundanium but are not called "Gundams", such as Vayeate and Mercurius.

In After Colony the GUNDAM acronym is defined as "Genetic on Universal Neutraly Different Alloy-nium Mobile suit". [4.]

After War[]

In the After War timeline, Gundams are advanced high-performance mobile suits first designed and built by the United Nations Earth near the end of the 7th Space War against the Space Revolutionary Army, and later used by Vulture and the New United Nations Earth forces in the 8th Space War. The origin of the term in this timeline is unknown, it and ∀ Gundam are the only series in which it does not have an acronym.

Only one Gundam is seen in this timeline, the SYSTEM ∀-99 (WD-M01) ∀ Gundam. The origin of the term can be assumed to be related to one (or several) of the other Gundam series that are referenced in Turn A as being part of the Dark History. Like Gundam X, in this series the word "Gundam" has no specific acronym.

Cosmic Era[]

KusoCartoon 14958430598789

Zarco Mugenbide Mobile Droid

In the Cosmic Era, the term "Gundam" refers to the prototype mobile suits that require powerful mobile suit operation system (M.O.S) to function. The nickname of Gundam was coined by Kira Yamato to Strike Gundam when he read the acronym of the M.O.S., General Unilateral Neuro-link Dispersive Autonomic Maneuver system, or the G.U.N.D.A.M. acronym in and of itself. The crew of the Archangel then slowly caught on to the term and subsequent prototype mobile suits from all major factions have hence been referred to as Gundams. However, the official name for Gundams in the Cosmic Era is "G-Weapon".

In the Cosmic Era all of the many Gundam acronyms refer to the name of the OS on their respective mobile suits. The acronyms are as follows:

Anno Domini[]

Our_Lady_Peace_-_One_Man_Army_(Official_Remastered_HD_Video)

Our Lady Peace - One Man Army (Official Remastered HD Video)

In the Anno Domini timeline, Gundams are mobile suits constructed and used by the private paramilitary organization Celestial Being. Distinct from other mobile suits they contain a core generator system known as the GN Drive, which is capable of sustaining independent unit function for an indefinite period of time without the need to refuel. It is these GN Particles and the technology that incorporates them that gives the Gundams the advantages they have in areas such as defense, offense and mobility over conventional mobile suits. In addition, the GN Drive incorporates an on-board propulsion system which recycles its particle exhaust for high-speed, virtually unlimited acceleration. This exhaust also disrupts the use of conventional radar and certain types wireless communications. In addition to having superior general performance, the Gundams are also capable of functioning on many different types of terrain including land, air, space and underwater without any modifications.

Setsuna F. Seiei has been known to take this definition a step further, labeling anything which assists in the eradication of conflict as a Gundam regardless of whether it is a machine or a human being. He uses this definition to justify intervention against the Gundam Thrones, labeling them as false "Gundams" due to their actions encouraging rather than discouraging war.

In Anno Domini, "G.U.N.D.A.M." is lettered as such, but despite this it is not explained as an acronym. The term "Gundam" has been coined as early Aeolia's time and was used by him in the recording where he introduced Celestial Being.[1] Despite being historically credited as the creator of mobile suits,[2] Aeolia himself did not expect the Gundams to be humanoid weapons.[3]

The word "mecha" (メカ meka?) is an abbreviation first used in Japanese of the word "mechanical". In Japanese, mecha encompasses all mechanical objects, including cars, guns, computers, and other devices, and the term "robot" (ロボット robotto?) or "giant robot" to distinguish limbed vehicles from other mechanical devices.[1] Outside of this usage, it has become associated with large robots with limbs or other biological characteristics.

While the distinction is often hazy, mecha typically does not refer to form-fitting powered armor such as Iron Man's suit. They are usually much larger than the wearer, like Iron Man's enemy the Iron Monger, and possess a cockpit from which they are operated.

In most fiction in which they appear, mecha are fighting machines: essentially armored fighting vehicles with a body instead of a vehicular frame. Some stories, such as the manga Patlabor and American wargame BattleTech, also encompass mecha used for civilian purposes such as heavy construction work, police functions or firefighting. Mecha also see roles as transporters, recreation, advanced hazmat suits and other R and D applications.

Some science fiction universes posit that mecha are the primary means of combat, with conflicts sometimes being decided through gladiatorial matches. Others represent mecha as one component of an integrated military force, supported by and fighting alongside tanks, fighter aircraft, and infantry, functioning as a mechanical cavalry. The applications often highlight the theoretical usefulness of such a device, combining a tank's resilience and firepower with infantry's ability to cross unstable terrain. In other cases they are demonstrated with a greater versatility in armament, such as in the Armored Core series of video games where mecha carry a wide range of armament spread across 4 "hard points" (both hands and 2 backpack sockets) albeit on a much larger scale. Another example is the anime Mobile Suit Gundam in which military forces have mecha known as "Mobile Suits", the series signature mecha being the RX-78 Gundam. In some continuities, special scenarios are constructed to make Mecha more viable than current-day status. For example, in Gundam the fictional Minovsky particle inhibits the use of radar, making long-range ballistic strikes impractical, thus favouring relatively close range warfare of Mobile Suits.

Mecha have been used in fantasy settings, for example in the anime series Aura Battler Dunbine, The Vision of Escaflowne, Panzer World Galient and Maze. In those cases, the mecha designs are usually based on some alternative or 'lost' science-fiction technology from ancient times. In case of anime series Zoids, the machines resemble dinosaurs and animals, and have been shown to evolve from native metallic organisms.

Early history[]

[1] Illustration of a Tripod walker from the 1906 French edition of The War of the WorldsThe 1880 Jules Verne novel La Maison à vapeur (The Steam House) featured a steam-powered, piloted, mechanical elephant. One of the first appearances of such machines in modern literature was the tripods of H. G. Wells' famous The War of the Worlds (1897). The novel does not contain a fully detailed description of the tripods' (or "fighting-machine", as they are known in the novel) mode of locomotion, however it is hinted at: "Can you imagine a milking stool tilted and bowled violently along the ground? That was the impression those instant flashes gave. But instead of a milking stool imagine it a great body of machinery on a tripod stand."

Two of the earliest uses of mecha in the United States were Kimball Kinnison's battle suit in E. E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman novel Galactic Patrol, and the Mobile Infantry battle suits in Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

Mecha were popularized by Japanese anime and manga. The first humanoid giant robot is Tetsujin 28-Go, introduced in 1956. Tetsujin was controlled externally via remote control by an operator. The first occurrence of mecha being piloted by a user from within a cockpit was introduced in the manga and anime series Mazinger Z by Go Nagai, first published in 1972.[2]

Further information: Mecha anime, Super Robot, Real Robot and List of mecha animeIn Japan, "robot anime" (known as "mecha anime" outside Japan) is one of the oldest genres in anime.[3] Robot anime is often tied in with toy manufacturers. Large franchises such as Zoids and Gundam have hundreds of different model kits.

The size of mecha can vary according to the story and concepts involved. Some of them may not be considerably taller than a tank (Armored Trooper Votoms, Megazone 23, Code Geass), some may be a few stories tall (Gundam, Escaflowne, Bismark, Gurren Lagann), others can be as tall as a skyscraper (Space Runaway Ideon, Genesis of Aquarion, Neon Genesis Evangelion), some are big enough to contain an entire city (Macross), some the size of a planet (Diebuster), galaxies (Getter Robo, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann), or even as large as universes (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Lagann-hen, Demonbane).

Mech sizes

mechas sizes

The first giant robot seen was Mitsuteru Yokoyama's 1956 manga Tetsujin 28-go. However, it wasn't until the advent of Go Nagai's Mazinger Z that the genre was established. Mazinger Z innovated by adding the inclusion of futuristic weapons, and the concept of being able to pilot from a cockpit[2] (rather than via remote control, in the case of Tetsujin). According to Go Nagai: I wanted to create something different, and I thought it would be interesting to have a robot that you could drive, like a car.[2] Mazinger Z featured giant robots which were "piloted by means of a small flying car and command center that docked inside the head."[2] It was also a pioneer in die-cast metal toys such as the Chogokin series in Japan and the Shogun Warriors in the U.S., that were (and still are) very popular with children and collectors.

Robot/mecha anime and manga differ vastly in storytelling and animation quality from title to title, and content ranges all the way from children's shows to ones intended for an older teen or adult audience.

Some robot mecha are capable of transformation (Macross, Zeta Gundam, Transformers) or combining to form even bigger ones (Beast King GoLion and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann). Go Nagai is also often credited with inventing this in 1974 with the television series Getter Robo.

Not all mecha need be completely mechanical. Some have biological components with which to interface with their pilots, and some are partially biological themselves, such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Eureka Seven, and Zoids.

Mecha based on anime have seen extreme cultural reception across the world. The personification of this popularity can be seen as 1:1 size Mazinger Z, Tetsujin, and Gundam statues built across the world.

Designed as a heavy infantry assault unit, unlike the Destroids, the Golems are assigned to weapons companies, which support the infantry companies. There is one heavy weapon company for every three infantry rifle companies. The heavy weapons companies usually also include Daniel Fire support vehicles or Destroids.

The Golems are much lighter and more nimble than most Destroids, and are designed to go most places that infantry can go, except inside human-sized structures. They are one of the few large mecha piloted by infantry(human and micronized Zentraedi) and are easy to pilot, produce and repair.

The Golem is armed with a Pulse beam cannon on one arm, short range missiles in the chest and has forearm shields to help defend itself in combat. It is also extremely useful in hostile environments and boarding enemy spaceships.

Flight: 250 mph (400 km) maximum, twice as fast in space. Can hover stationary and perform Vertical Take-Offs and Landings (VTOL).

VR-064S SHADOWDANCER SHADOW VERITECH CYCLONE Version 1.2 RPG Stats, Design and Images by Grayfire Minor alterations and HTML by Nathan Babcook "Warning: Powerful Fan-Fic Mecha.  Liberal Application of this design may be unbalancing to game play, and damaging to established continuity - use at your own risk"

The VR-064S Shadow Cyclone was originally developed in 2037 by the REF on Tirol as part of Project Shadowchaser. The project was created by the Robotech Research Group (RRG) in hopes of developing technology that could help combat the Invid on occupied Earth. The development of the SF-7 shadow device was their crowning achievement, capable of rendering the mecha in which it was built invisible to the Invid Protoculture sensors as well as most other forms of detection. Designed into several Veritech fighters, the SF-7 would give the REF an advantage over the Invid. The head of the RRG, Dr. Emil Lang, who had been essential in the development of both the shadow devices and the Cyclones, created a design experiment by combining the best aspects of both technologies. As the original SF-7 device was to cumbersome to incorporate into a Cyclone, a much smaller version, dubbed the SF-9, was developed. It was placed within the frame of a modified VR-041 Sabre Cyclone and enhanced with upgraded prototype weaponry. Included

among the new features was the addition of the EP-50 reflex autocannon, which replaced the GR-103 missile launchers within the chest. A merger of the proven GR-97 and CADS-1 modules was incorporated onto the arm plates, while still retaining its capacity to link with other weapon modules (the 'S' designation of the VR-064 is derived from its standard modules). New Maglev (magnetic levitation) shock absorbers were installed to allow better handling and control. The auxiliary liquid fuel system was removed in favor of replacing the single Protoculture cell with a dual cell version as the dual cell was required to power the EP-50 cannon as well as energize the shadow device. The liquid fuel was also intended to help Cyclone riders avoid Invid detection and the Shadow Cyclone was immune to this. Finally, the standard EP-37 beam cannon was added to the mecha. Combined with the shadow device, the new VR-064 proved to be a formidable adversary.

The VR-064 was often linked to CVR-3D armor (previously designed for the VR-055 Devastator) which was painted dark blue and grey to match the color scheme of the Cyclone. The design of the Shadow, however, had several inherent problems. Its primary weapon, the EP- 50, had a tendency to overheat in combat, leaving the pilot in a potentially deadly situation. The cost of the Cyclone, as well, was prohibitive, even more so than its expensive Sabre predecessor. Despite this, the Shadow entered limited production with one hundred of them being produced for the REF assault on Earth. In 2038, the majority of these Cyclones were made part of the Saturn Group. Most of them were assigned to elite commando units for surgical strikes against Reflex Point. A handful of them made it to Earth through the Invid orbital defenses, and of these few, most resisted Invid attacks with phenomenal success because of their inherent invisibility and heavy weaponry. Less than a year after the Battle of Reflex Point, however, the Third Invid War began and the few remaining Shadows planet side fell into the hands of resistance fighters. In this role they were often used by rebels for heavy assault and covert operatives. It was often used in combination with second generation CVR armor and weapon modules in this capacity. Ten Shadows were onboard the SDF-3 Pioneer when it mysteriously vanished in a mis-fold in 2038. The small number of Shadows that were stationed in Tirolspace as part of its Mercury Defense Group were ultimately replaced by the VR-141 Super Saber following the Cyclone Redesign Project in 2039, which proved to be both cheaper to mass produce and did not suffer from the technical difficulties as the VR-064. Despite the discontinuation of the VR-064, several of its design aspects served to inspire later Cyclone systems.

The size of each container is 18" tall by 20" wide by 18" deep (18x20x18). A third standard survival kit is also carried. A passenger can also ride seated behind the driver. The maximum weight limit is 250 pounds (113 kg) in addition to the pilot. Reduce maximum speed by 20% (42 mph/34 kph) and -1 to dodge for every additional 50 lbs (22 kg) over the limit. Main Engine: FF-600 dual cell Protoculture engine. Two rear-mounted rocket thrusters for flight. Range: Two protoculture cells give the Cyclone an active combat life of two months before needing refueling. Constant flying and hovering drains the cells three times as fast, but occasional burst of flight use only a negligible drain on energy. Unlike other Cyclones, the Shadow does not possess a liquid fuel system as backup as it requires the dual cell system to power its weaponry and shadow device.

WEAPON SYSTEMS

  1. EP-50 Reflex Autocannon: A powerful particle beam cannon internally mounted within the right chest cavity, replacing the two GR-103 mini-missile launchers standard to the VR-41 Saber. The weapon draw upon an incredible amount of energy and thus can only fire twice per round. The cannon is also prone to overheat, rendering it useless for 2D6 melee rounds whenever a natural one to strike is rolled.
    • Primary Purpose: Anti-mecha.
      Gund

      Gundam schematics

    • Damage: 3D6x10 MD.
    • Rate of fire: Twice per round.
    • Range: One mile.
    • Payload: Unlimited.
  2. Modular Weapon Systems: The arm shields of the VR-064 Shadow can interface with several weapon modules. The module can be mounted upon each forearm shield, but standard issue is the GR-97A / CADS-2A module. The GR-97A unit is a modification of the GR-97 mini-missile launcher used by the VR-052 Battler. Standard issue for the launchers are two 45mm x 260mm Scorpion plasma mini-missiles. Located between the two mini-missile tubes is the CADS (Close Assault and Defense System)-2A, a vibro-blade based upon the CADS-1 used by the VR-041 Sabre. Unlike the Sabre, the CADS-2A does not possess a renewing force field for added protection, nor are the blades fully retractable. The blades are often used for personal combat in battloid mode and for ramming tactics in cycle mode. The CADS-2A is the basis of the CADS-2 used by the VR-141 Super Sabre. The Shadow carries two modules as standard issue.
  3. GR-97A Mini-Missile Launchers (2):
    • Purpose: Assault / anti-aircraft.
    • Damage: 1D6x10 MD per missile.
    • Range: One mile.
    • Rate of fire: One or a volley of two.
    • Payload: 2 plasma mini-missiles per module (4 total).
  4. CADS-2A Vibro-Blades (2):
    • Purpose: Personal combat / clandestine operations / ramming.
    • Range: Touch.
    • Damage: (slash) 4D4 MD, (punch) 4D6 MD, (power punch) 1D4x10 MD (counts as two attacks).
    • Note: The VR-064 Shadow Cyclone's alphabetic notation is derived from the weapon modules and hand weaponry that it utilizes. The 'S' designation derives from the standard GR-97A/CADS- 2A module. Other designations include: A (no modules), F (GR-97, GR-117, GR-200, GR-215 or GR-220), H (CADS-1, CADS-1B or CADS-2), L (RL-6), R (EP-42 and GR-105), and T (EP-40). The Cyclone is also capable of using the missile launching sidecar or CA series Cyclone accessories.
  5. EP-37 60mm Beam Cannon: A heavy particle beam weapon, the EP-37 connects to the forearm plate of the Shadow and supported by its augmented strength. Common issue to several Cyclone models, it is difficult for unaugmented humans to use because of its weight (-3 to strike). The weapon is stored on the right shoulder hardpoint in cycle mode and hand-held in battloid mode. It also comes equipped with a telescopic and passive night sight targeting system.
    • Purpose: Assault .
    • Damage: 1D4x10 MD.
    • Range: 4000 feet
    • Rate of fire: Aimed, burst or wild.
    • Payload: 10 blasts per energy clip.
    • Weight: 14 lb (6.4 kg).
  6. Hand-to-hand Combat: Punch inflicts 1D6 MD, restrained punch 6D6+30 SD, kick 1D6 MD, leap kick 2D6 MD, body flip/throw 1D6 MD and body block/tackle 1D6 MD.
  7. Any hand-held weapon, including the Gallant series energy weapons, may be used by the Cyclone pilot.

STANDARD SENSORS AND EQUIPMENT FOR VR-064 SHADOW CYCLONE

  • SF-9 Shadow Cloaking Device: The Shadow Cyclone is designed to be invisible to most forms of electronic detection. It utilizes an SF-9 shadow cloaking device (a fourth-dimensional distortion field generator that dampens protoculture radiation) and an RRG mk3 EM-absorbing stealth cover (absorbs EM radiation from radio through UV wavelengths). The Cyclone and its CVR-3 armor are often painted dark blue and gray to make them difficult to see in space or at night. Developed by Emil Lang, the SF-9 is a miniaturized version of the larger SF-7 utilized in the shadow fighters and is immune to virtually all detection except for light-based detection systems, such as optical and laser tracking. It is only after they enter visual range are they visible. This gives the Shadow initiative for the first round of combat (provided that it was not seen) and +3 on initiative and +1 to strike on every attack. Note: After the Shadow is reduced to half its MDC, there is a 50% chance of the shadow device failing with every hit that strikes the main body.
  • Maglev (magnetic levitation) Shock Absorbers: Magnetic levitation that grants the mecha superior control. Capable of superior on- and off-road handling, with a bonus of +5% to all control rolls (+10% for Cyclone Rider OCC).
  • Short Range Radar with Heads-Up Display (HUD): Range: 1 mile (1.6 km). Can identify and track up to 20 targets and displays radar screen inside of helmet.
  • Computer Targeting System: Range: 4000 ft (609 m). Retractable sensor located within right shoulder in battloid mode and had infrared (IR) capabilities. Bonuses: +2 to strike with mini- missiles, +1 to strike with other weapon systems. Radio
  • Communications System: Wide band and directional with voice command actuation (a four digit code). Boosts radio in CVR armor to 10 miles (16 km).
  • Miscellaneous Indicators: Speed, altitude, fuel, time, date, power status, direction, etc. All controlled by onboard computer.
  • Detachable Cargo Boxes: Two boxes attach to the rear of the cycle mode. Each box weighs 10 pounds empty and can hold twelve mini-missiles (24 pounds). They detach when the Cyclone transforms to battloid mode and must be retrieved later. A third cargo box may be used instead of the standard survival kit.
  • Standard Survival Kit: A small reinforced box the size of a briefcase. The same dimensions as the cargo boxes, the kit detaches as well when the Cyclone transforms to battloid mode. The main compartment is locked with a combination lock mechanism. The kit contains a first aid kit, mess kit, canteen, pocket knife, matches or lighter, flashlight, vitamins and two weeks worth of freeze-dried rations. It weighs approximately ten pounds fully loaded.
  • CVR Series Armor: The Shadow may link with a suit of CVR-3D armor (previously developed for use by the VR-055 Devastator) painted dark gray and blue, but is also capable of linking with standard CVR-3, CVR-4 and CVR-4C armor as well. Cyclone Storage: The Shadow can collapse into a cube-like shape for easy storage. Most REF mecha possess a storage unit designed to hold Cyclone cycles.

The Cyclones developed by the REF all share similar piloting and handling controls. This applies to both the early designs (used during the Second Invid War) and the later designs (used during the Third Invid War). All the various modules and accessories are capable of linking with any Cyclone and the Cyclone will recognize the variations and adjust its HUD and onboard displays to reflect that. Despite differences in the various designs, all Cyclones are capable of being used by anyone with the skills Pilot Mecha Cyclone and Mecha Combat: Basic Cyclone or Mecha Combat: Advanced Cyclone. Advanced combat training is available only to REF personnel. Basic combat training is available to non-REF personnel if trained or self-taught. Combat training from the RDF T-CBBA-X Tornado Battle Bike or the Southern Cross SMS series Hargun and Garland cycles may be substituted for basic combat training as well.

A combiner (sometimes capitalized, sometimes not) is a group of Transformers that assemble and combine their bodies into a single machine, or that composite machine itself. Most combiners form a larger Super Robot with its own unique personality (a character in its own right), but other varieties of combiner exist, forming vehicles, weapons, or other items. Combiners tend to be considerably larger and more powerful than the average Transformer, equivalent to strategic-grade weapons.

Optimus Prime schematics

There are a number of combiner-related terms that can be easy to mix up, partially because some of them are used interchangeably. Additionally, most of them have no formal definition and thus may be used differently by different fans. Consequently, most of the discussion which follows should not be taken as the word of Primus, but as a rough description of common usage.

[2][3]Worst...logo...ever.Wreckers: combine! (beat) Well, I thought it was funny.Rotorstorm, "Last Stand of the Wreckers #3"Combiner: As above, a member of a group of Transformers who assemble into a composite form. Also refers to that composite form itself. This is the most general term for all combining Transformers, and the most common term that has been used by Hasbro in an official capacity, starting with the Micromaster Combiners from 1990 (with the exception of the more limited "special teams" and a recent official use of the term "gestalt"), having even appeared with its own logo on the 2001 Robots in Disguise toyline packaging.

[4][5]What, no Terror Claws? No Cranium Regulation Unit? What kind of lame dissection is this?!Gestalt: Generally only a "big robot" combiner with an emergent personality, but usage is imprecise. The term was coined by fans, and there was never consensus on how broadly it could be applied; for example, if Squawkbox would fall under the category or not. The term was and remains quite popular in the fandom, and it eventually gained official use as well. It's unclear when or how it first arose, but it is commonly

Dngrd

Danguard in flight

understood to refer to gestalt psychology, wherein the word roughly means a

Dngr

Danguard Satelizer schematics

thing that is greater than or different from the sum of its parts. (For more on its origin and meaning, see Notes.) It remained firmly in realm of fanon for years, though its appearance in some Energon design sketches showed that the term had caught on with Hasbro designers. Then in 2007, "gestalt" made its first official appearance in the bio of the Titanium Series Menasor toy, followed in the same year by the Spotlight: Optimus Prime comic (referring to Monstructor), and again in 2009 in the "First (and Second) in Flight" comic wherein Perceptor describes Jetfire's & Jetstorm's combination into Safeguard as a sort of "gestalt powerlink". Scramble City combiner: A specific type of Generation 1 giant gestalt that follows the five-member design

Stlzr

Danguard Satelizer mode

featured in the Japanese Scramble City toyline. The team leader is larger than the other members and forms the main body of the combiner, while the others are smaller and form the limbs. The limbs are interchangeable, although there is always a generally-accepted “normal” formation. Further, the limbs are interchangeable from one Scramble City-style combiner to another, making for a large number of bizarre combinations. (See Abomenaticus, Cybertron Super Scramble, Comperian, Destron Super Scramble, and Scramble 7.) Limbs are also able to attach to and augment Metroplex & Metrotitan (see "Notes" below). Note that this term is purely descriptive rather than being a proper name.

Special Team: A synonym for Scramble City-style combiner. When the Scramble City toys were marketed in Europe they were referred to as Special Teams, and the term even appeared in the UK comic book series. The term was used in some marketing materials in the US, such as packing lists for the toy case assortments, but never appeared in US fiction until the Ultimate Guide was published in 2004. It was also used as the name for a Target exclusive five-pack of redecos of Cybertron Legends toys released under the Universe banner, "Special Team Leaders". Ironically, none of these toys were actually combiners—the term simply referred to the characters, since the redecos were homages to the leaders of Generation 1 combiner teams, four of which were Scramble City-style combiners.

Super Robot: A robot which is formed through the combination of two or more Transformers. Powered-up robot modes composed of only one Transformer who combines with some of their own accessories are often also referred to as Super Robots, such as Powermaster Optimus Prime or the incarnations of Prime from Robots in Disguise and all three Unicron Trilogy series. It is probably safe to informally refer to any such mode as a Super Robot (thus including, say, G1 Ultra Magnus and Energon Landmine). Note that this means Super Robots are not always combiners and do not have to have their own personality. Rather, Super Robot and combiner are two different categories of Transformer which sometimes overlap. A one-robot Super Robot may also be referred to as that robot's Super Mode.

Fusilateral quintrocombiner: Coined by Simon Furman in issue 9 of the Generation 2 comic to refer to the Combaticons. It presumably is meant to refer to all the Scramble City-style teams except possibly the Seacons, as their combined forms consist of six robots (not five, so they could possibly be fusilateral hexocombiners I guess...). It may also apply to the Predacons, but it doesn't matter because nobody uses this term anyway.

Amalgam model: Yet another obscure term for combiners first used by Simon Furman via Wheeljack in the "Devastation Derby!" story in the UK comic books.

Types of combiner[]

As mentioned above, most combiners form a super robot. However, there are many other types of combining in the Transformers multiverse.

In the Energon franchise, most of the Autobot characters were able to combine with each other in pairs much like Victory's Multiforce. These combined forms can probably be considered Super Robots. The combined form was simply controlled by whichever Autobot was "on top". Make whatever jokes you will.

Generation 1 contains many examples of combined alternate modes, including Reflector, Dreadwing, Big Powered, the Battlestar, and the Double Targetmasters.

The Micromaster Combiners are made up of Transformers whose altmodes combine into vehicles, with one partner being the front and another the rear. The combined forms do not have specific names. Thanks to the generic peg-and-socket connection method used, any two Micromaster combiners can be linked (though some such as the dump truck/space shuttle combo may attract comment). These altmode combiners should not be confused with the Micromaster "Sixcombiners", six-robot teams who combine to form a Super Robot.

The Unicron Trilogy's Mini-Cons brought to the fiction combined weapon modes, like the Star Saber & Vorpal Saber swords, Requiem Blaster cannon, and Skyboom shield.

The Power Core Combiners use a different type of combining method. Instead of using 5 robots, the combined final robot is formed by one "Commander" type robot, and 4 different drones that form the arms and legs.

Not all cases of multiple things attaching to each other are combiners. As mentioned above, many Super Robots—which are formed through a conglomeration of parts—are not combiners. Energon Landmine, for example.

KusoCartoon 14018550556289

Sentinel Drone

A similar case can be found in Transformers who have two or more "components" which combine into a single entity. G1 Sky Lynx has lynx and dino-bird components, G1 Omega Supreme has tank, base, and rocket components, and Magmatron has three dinosaur components. However, all of these components are considered to be "part of" the overall Transformer, even through they can act independently. The Duocons are another case of this sort. All of these examples are not combiners because there is only one Transformer involved in each of them, regardless of how many bodies that Transformer may simultaneously operate. Such robots are occasionally referred to as "Reverse Combiners" within the fandom.

(Confusing things further are the comics which treated Sky Lynx and the Duocons as triple changers, able to transform between the combined mode and the ones for individual components without any parts separating off.)

Sometimes a smaller Transformer will attach to and enhance a larger Transformer in some way. This is the case when Mini-Cons powerlink with bulks, as well as with binary-bonded partners like Headmasters, Powermasters/Godmasters, Kiss Players, and Breastforce members. Although these examples do include more than one Transformer (or a Transformer and a fleshling), they are not considered "combiners". The simplest justification for this is that, in these cases, the "combined" form is almost exactly the same in appearance as the non-combined form.

And sometimes things just combine for no real reason at all. Just deal with it. We hate it, oh God yes, but there it is. We're sorry.

Experiments in combining were conducted both before and during the early phase of the civil war, in a process known as mass intellect. However, the combined forms suffered in that the stronger minds tended to drown out the weaker ones. Following the failure of the planetary engine turbines, the Constructicons turned their attention to the mass intellect process. They eventually developed a hyper vortex processor that managed to preserve the individuals minds in the combined whole. Testing the process on themselves, the Constructicons combined into Devastator. While the Constructicons were able to preserve their minds, Devastator was hampered by the need of all six Constructicons to agree on a course of action, which was usually destroy the Autobots. As a result, the combined intellects of the Constructicons did not translate to Devastator, who instead suffered serious mental disabilities. Despite this, Devastator's destructive capabilities greatly pleased Megatron, and he ordered the Constructicons to continue their experiments. Transformers: The Ultimate Guide

Unicron Trilogy[]

Armada cartoon[]

[23][24]Optimus Prime could combine with his trailer to form a Super Mode robot. With this ability at his disposal, he beat the tar out of every Decepticon at least once. Then a new magic mushroom appeared: Jetfire. During a battle with the Decepticons, the Autobots were totally getting slagged by Megatron's new tactician Thrust and his 'henchman' Tidal Wave. Right when it seemed hopeless, a space shuttle fell from the sky and combined with Optimus to form Jet Optimus. Needless to say, Megatron was rather surprised. The Decepticons kept trying to beat the Autobots and miserably failed each time, frequently due to this new team-up, which also helped the Autobots survive and win the Unicron Battles. A third magic mushroom appeared late on in the series literally out of nowhere. Prime's new 'shroom, named Overload, formed a large pair of cannons on top of Super Optimus's shoulders. Overload's additional firepower, combined with the already impressive firepower of the Requiem Blaster, enabled Optimus to destroy the being known as Sideways.

The Decepticons were not without their own combiner; Tidal Wave was able to combine with Megatron to form additional armor and a back-mounted rocket pack. The only practical upshot of this is that Megatron could now fly, which came in handy from time to time.

The three Mini-Con companions of the humans Rad, Alexis and Carlos could band together to form Perceptor. There were three other Mini-Con combiner teams who could form the Star Saber, the Skyboom Shield, and the Requiem Blaster. A fourth weapon existed as a dark clone of the Star Saber, wielded by the evil Nemesis Prime.

IDW Generation 1 continuity[]

Combination between Cybertronians dated back to the era of the Thirteen Tribes in the primitive years preceding the First Cybertronian Civil War. During this time, Thirteen member Nexus Prime wielded the Enigma of Combination, an extremely powerful artifact that allowed two or more Cybertronians to combine with one another. When war swept the early Cybertron, Nexus used the Enigma to create the first Headmsters, linkages between humanoid Cybertronians and the bestial 'bots of his ally of Onyx Prime. The Mind Bomb Darklander warrior Galvatron, convinced of the innate "purity" of humanoid Cybertronians, The Crucible saw combination as a perversion that "rotted away the individual" OnoffON and slaughtered the Headmasters to the last 'bot in his campaign — a campaign that led him to Nexus Prime's castle. Galvatron easily killed the tribal leader and stole the Enigma from its owner; unable to destroy the artifact, he launched it into space in hopes that it would burn up in a nearby star. The Crucible [29][30]Wubba wubba wubba is Monstructor's song. After the remaining Thirteen abandoned Cybertron, the planet came under the rule of Nova Major, who took the title of Nova Prime. As Nova's early idealism gave way to a twisted, fascistic imperialism, he sought to literally fulfill the prophecy of a time when "all were one" by recreating the technology as a tool of conquest, and instructed his chief theoretical scientist Jhiaxus to find a way to create a combiner without the Enigma. The Crucible

Jhiaxus's experiments eventually yielded a crude recreation of ancient combiner technology. Without the reality-warping power of the Enigma, the process was imperfect; Primus: All Good Things The Crucible this stunted form of combination relied on forcibly merging the bodies and minds of the 'bots involved in the combination. The first such combiner to be created using this process was to be the prototype for Jhiaxus's future endeavors; while the six volunteers who Jhiaxus had conscripted were able to successfully combine, the resultant personality was violently insane, dubbing itself "Monstructor" and rampaging through Crystal City until it was subdued and imprisoned by Omega Supreme. Spotlight: Optimus Prime Primus: All Good Things

Perhaps due to the spectacular failure of Monstructor, serious research into combiner technology was largely shelved as Cybertronian society developed and stagnated, though some groups continued to try to unlock the secret. The Crucible As the Great War began, however, Megatron sought to bolster his growing Decepticon army by creating a viable combiner. To this end, he recruited Shockwave, one of Jhiaxus's former students, to continue his master's research into the technology, though Shockwave warned him that the process might take millions of years. Shockwaves [31][32]My Little DevisiunThough true combination was still out of reach for the Cybertronian species, some individuals developed a safer form of combination where one or more robots could transform into part of an alternate mode — a mutation known as a "duocombiner". Patternism The Functionist Council represented a twelve-bot combiner team; their assembled alternate mode was the religious ornament known as the Key to Vector Sigma. Bad Moon Rising In some instances, a shared alternate mode might be attributed to an incredibly rare genetic condition known as a "branched spark," causing Transformers to be born with a twin sibling. Though incredibly rare on Cybertron, the Transformer colonists of the planet Devisiun evolved into a civilization of duocombiners. When the inhabitants of Devisiun made formal contact with Cybertronians, Vanquish was quick to point out that his people were not "true" combiners like Superion, although they seemed impressed by the technology. Windblade vol. 2 #6 If one Devisien died, the remaining partner could no longer transform. The Next Day, and the Next

At some point during the Great War, the Decepticons drafted five subjects to become the "Combicons," an experimental attempt at building a workable Decepticon combiner. Due to the humiliating process of having his alternate mode modified into a right leg, team member Ambulon defected to the Autobots and the project was abandoned. How Ratchet Got His Hands Back No Guns, No Swords, No Briefcases The Decepticon obsession with combiner technology became something of a joke amongst the Autobots during the war. The Waiting Game

When Monstructor escaped from his dimensional prison, he was apprehended by the Autobots Spotlight: Optimus Prime with his components being taken into custody in the hopes that they could be rehabilitated. Jetfire and the Technobots studied them with the goal of rehabilitating them, but the technology involved stymied Jetfire, who estimated it would take a lot more study before progress could be made. He didn't get the chance, however, since the "Monstructor Six" were soon captured by the Decepticon Secret Service. Spotlight: Arcee

Shockwave eventually abandoned the Decepticons in order to pursue his pet project, and just prior to the Surge, Bombshell followed up on Shockwave's combiner research and yielded the first Decepticon combiner in the form of Devastator. Devastator avoided the insanity inherent in Jhiaxus's combination method by using the already like-minded Constructicons and deliberately suppressing their individual personalities while combined, but was still slow and dim-witted. Before the Dawn Following Megatron's defeat, Scrapper was killed by Spike Witwicky of Skywatch; Scrapper the Constructicons were able to continue forming Devastator after they liberated their comrade's body from human custody, but the combiner suffered from a "dead leg." Kings

Other Decepticons sought to emulate the successful combination of the Constructicons, and in the years following the Surge some Decepticon groups would experiment with the technology. Both the Stunticons Enemies of the System and Predacons The Iron Klaw would acquire black market combiner technology (the former having acquired it through Swindle), but in both cases their efforts proved unsuccessful. Though the Stunticons got as far as forming Menasor, they were unable to properly unify their minds and collapsed shortly after forming. Earthworks The Predacons didn't even get as far as combining; according to Kup, this failure was due to the rowdy group's inability to agree on anything. The Iron Klaw [33][34]The next breakthrough in combiner technology came in the final battle of the Great War after the villainous entity D-Void harnessed a mysterious energy emitted by Cybertron's core; using the powers of the planet itself, the creature managed to suppress the individual wills of Galvatron, his Sweeps, and the entirety of Megatron's Decepticon army, creating a monstrous creature under the D-Void's direct control. Kings

Inspired by this power, Megatron learned to manipulate the very same energy, which discombobulated the sensors of individual Cybertronians who strayed too far from the outskirts of Iacon. When the Aerialbots ventured into the Cybertronian wilderness, they experienced a different effect: unnatural conflicts developed between them, and the group became increasingly aggressive until they spontaneously combined into Superion; this reaction was speculated to be a CNA-level defense mechanism against the hostile signal. Dinobot Hunt Night and the City

At the same time, Bombshell and the Decepticon leadership had secretly taken control of the Autobot strategist Prowl, retrofitting his quarters into "The Black Room", where they could improve further on combiner technology. Having recovered the five surviving Constructicons, Bombshell upgraded them into a new, modular design, one capable of accepting any compatible Transformer, and used Prowl as a guinea pig to form a Devastator under the control of Bombshell's cerebro-shells. Before the Dawn When Bombshell died, Prowl's mind reawoke, and, united by their shared hatred of Spike Witwicky, a Prowl-centric Devastator personality emerged from the combiner. This new Devastator ran amuck and grievously injured the recently formed Superion until he was defeated. Plan for Everything When Megatron then tried to trigger his own Devastator combination with the Constructicons, the Autobots stopped him. Heavy Is the Head

The Constructicons began to see Prowl as a kindred spirit, and allied themselves with the Autobots in order to remain with him. Second Exodus Prowl soon became the de facto leader of the Constructicons, and tactically deployed Devastator on several occasions. Black Planet Detonation Boulevard I Dream of Wires OnoffON Though powerful, the Constructicons began slowly losing their individual quirks and finishing one another's sentences, while Prowl suffered energon "nosebleeds" after every combination session The Mind Bomb and occasionally called his Constructicon teammates "Scrapper". I Dream of Wires Even after he lost his place in the combination, Prowl stated that his experiences as Devastator meant that he no longer saw the Decepticons as enemies, but as a part of him. Now and On Earth

Monstructor resurfaced after the Chaos war, once more serving under Jhiaxus and Bludgeon. The combiner prototype opposed Orion Pax and his allies on several occasions until Shockwave was finally defeated. Syndromica (1) Syndromica (2) The Becoming Black Planet ...And the Damage Done [35][36]"To fight monsters, we created monsters of our own."The dramatic upswing of combiner activity across the galaxy had the side effect of sparking an unofficial combiner arms race. Worried about the destructive potential combiner posed, Cybertronian ruler Starscream ordered a team of scientists to repair the damaged Superion so that he could have a combiner of his own, incorporating Powerglide and Alpha Bravo as replacements. Repairs was hastened by the recovery of the lost Enigma of Combination; using it, Wheeljack was able to quickly return Superior to full functionality. The World of Tomorrow

Superion's return coincided with the restoration of Metroplex's space bridge and a potential alliance with the lost colony of Caminus. Hoping to rule the planet as part of an empire, Starscream's ambitions set in motion the brief but destructive "Combiner Wars," a series of battles on Cybertron and Caminus that saw the Enigma change hands numerous times, creating several new combiners. Combatants included Superion, a rebuilt Menasor, First Contact Defensor, formed from the loosely affiliated "Protectobots", Mistakes and Mayhem a new version of Devastator that incorporated Starscream's lackey Scoop in place of Prowl, and Optimus Maximus. You, Me, and the Universe Ultimately, Optimus Maximus, Superion, and Defensor emerged triumphant after a fight that spanned the galaxy, with both Menasor and Devastator knocked back into their component 'bots. Optimus Maximus willingly split himself apart in the aftermath so that Prowl could be arrested. All That Remains [37][38]It was at this moment Arcee knew she'd screwed up.After the formation of the Council of Worlds, Arcee tried to steal the Enigma of Combination, sparking in motion a chain of events that led to six visiting Torchbearers accidentally merging into the powerful Victorion. An Uneventful Night

Combiners created by the Enigma, although not markedly more intelligent than combiners created by other means, were far more mentally stable, and displayed unusual powers such as the ability to split their bodies apart or even fire their limbs as rocket-powered projectiles. The Sum and Its Parts Defensor, an Enigma combiner, was even able to substitute Ambulon as a replacement limb without any special modifications; this didn't last long, as he was killed by Star Saber shortly afterwards. Journey's End

Unlike other combiners, where a single, strong-willed 'bot could dominate the emergent personality, Enigma combiners relied on the joined minds of their components merging into a balanced mental entity, and failure to do so relied in the combiner becoming paralyzed by indecision. All That Remains Defensor and Superion both showed an unwillingness to split into their components, which worried Optimus Prime. Prowl referred to their new gestalt modes as the team's new "normal form", and noted that it was difficult for combiner teams to stay separate. You, Me, and the Universe After his arrest, Prowl taunted Optimus Prime, arguing that since they had formed Optimus Maximus together, a part of Prowl would always exist in Prime's mind. Now and On Earth [39][40]When Optimus Prime annexed Earth, he brought Superion and Victorion to assist him. However, the Enigma of Combination had, thanks to the machinations of Garrison Blackrock, "infected" all of Earth's computer devices and thus turned the planet itself into one big Enigma that Galvatron could control, creating Galvatronus and Sky Reign in the process. It's Beginning To And Back Again Superion sacrificed his life to undo the process, effectively "killing" himself by incorporating a part of the Enigma's code into his mind and permanently separating. As Above...So Below

Around this time, the Combaticons sought to access the mind of brain-dead Swindle, who had previously claimed to have dirt on Starscream. To do so, Onslaught used the Enigma on all five to create Bruticus. The four Combaticons were unprepared for the experience, and their volatile emotional state caused Bruticus to rampage through Iacon. The Line Between Us As a result of the combination, Brawl caught a glimpse of Swindle's last memories, and, as a result, developed a pervasive fear of death. The Chosen One

After the Ore-13 crisis, the human dictator Count "Iron Klaw" von Rani was able to develop an alternate version of combination technology with the help of Garrison Kregier; by using a copy of the mysterious Talisman to improve on the Predacon's failed combination technology, he was able to instigate a proper combination, dubbing their combined form "Predaking.". Without access to the Enigma of Combination, he was forced to use the Talisman to suppress their individual minds and turn them into mindless drones under his control. When Snake-Eyes smashed the console that kept them docile, their argumentative personalities resurfaced and tore the combiner apart. The Iron Klaw Despite the apparent death of Razorclaw following their seperation, Iron Klaw eventually managed to restore Predaking through unknown means, and used the seemingly unbrainwashed combiner to fight back the Maximal invasion of Earth. Experimental combiner technology was developed by the Decepticons for combat advantage and then used on the Constructicons who were able to form Devastator. Comfort was rather decidedly not on the top of the list of priorities and, as a result, the process was brutally painful to the Transformers involved, which also made the combiners fuse in a very aggressive and painful manner. The mental and physical torture involved left Devastator only interested in causing destruction.[1]

Knock Out hoped to undergo the "combination retrofit" process.[2]

The Tyran versions of the Aerialbots and the Combaticons could combine into Superion and Bruticus Maximus, respectively. Voltron is the legendary giant robotic superweapon made 10,000 years ago by King Alfor composed of 5 robotic lions: the Black Lion, the Red Lion, the Green Lion, the Blue Lion and the Yellow Lion. It was created using special ore from a "trans-reality comet" that had the ability to travel between different places in the space-time continuum. It is that ability that caused Zarkon to deem Voltron so valuable to the Empire, as it would allow him to collect quintessence from the layer between realities. A second comet with similar properties is later found by Lotor, which he then used to create the Sincline ships.
